Me, My Heart, and I

Porto, here I come!

Friday, October 3, 2014

Today I'm excited to be traveling to a city (and country) I've never been to. Portugal has always seemed like a faraway land for me even though it's less than two hours away by plane. It's thrilling for me to discover Porto, Portugal and get a peek into this city's culture. I'm looking forward to being to exploring and experiencing Porto. I hope to lose myself for a few days and enjoy this city's energy.

I purchased a guidebook about the city of Porto a week ago, but I still haven't even looked at it. I flipped through it once to check out the photos and to learn a few words, like please and thank you.

A part of me wants to know a little bit about the city I'll be visiting this weekend, but a bigger part of me wants to discover the place at my own pace. I almost feel it's cheating to know too much before I arrive. I prefer, in the end, to discover a new place little by little. I enjoy the mystery and the element of surprise.

Today will be a full day of opening my world up a little bit more. I am fortunate to be able to see new sights, learn about the history of the city, enjoy its delicacies, hear Its language, breathe a different air, and feel something new. All I really need to know is that my experience of Porto will be unique for me and will be dependent mostly on sensibilities and my frame of mind.

Ready or not, Porto, here I come!
